SUMMARY:Dwelling: an Immersive Performance Event
DESCRIPTION:Dwelling: an Immersive Performance Event at q-Staff Theatre\nAlbuquerque\, NM – Dwelling is a one-night-only immersive performance event created\ncollaboratively by a group of local artists as part of an international project exploring themes of\nhome and belonging. Taking place on Saturday\, June 21 at 8:00 PM\, artists will transform q-Staff\nTheater into a living room cafe where scenes\, sounds\, storytelling\, and images unfold all around\nthem.\nBorn out of an intensive week-long group collaboration\, Dwelling asks: What\, who\, where is\nhome\, and why is it that way? “Home is one of those words that gets thrown around a lot\,” said\nTara Khozein\, one of the project’s co-leaders\, “but we are often thinking of completely different\nthings when we say it. Some people think of a building\, others think of a feeling\, others think of\na person. It makes us ask ourselves where we come from and what makes us feel safe.”\nThe performance features contributions from an interdisciplinary group of local artists and\neducators including: Diana Delgado\, Marisa DeMarco\, Esther Elia\, Kat Kinnick\, Mariel Leon\nLazcano\, Zahra Marwan\, Aziza Murray\, Hope Orange\, Graham Parker Ransell\, Rich Van\nSchouwen\, Nick Tauro\, and Sandy Timmerman.\nOver a week of collective work\, the artists will create pieces individually and collaboratively that\nemerge from these themes including: How do you create home; leaving home: travel &\nmigration; eviction\, statelessness\, and deportation; chosen home\, chosen family\, and banding\ntogether; who makes you feel at home; being a stranger in a society; sanctuary\nDwelling is a project under the leadership of New Mexico-raised classical singer and theater\nartist Tara Khozein and Hungarian director Martin Boross of Promenade: Albuquerque. Boross \nshared a more personal perspective: “In the past years\, my personal and political definitions of\nhome have become less stable. As someone who’s had to leave my home country\, Hungary\, and\nas an artist who often works with people who live in precarity\, the question of what makes a\nplace feel like home has become urgent.”\nThe performance is presented in collaboration with q-Staff Theatre\, where the artists invite the\npublic to dwell on what it is we call home.\n$20 Tickets available at this link: http://tiny.cc/dwellingabq\nSpace is limited — reserve early!
