SUMMARY:Mystery Highway: VAMP
DESCRIPTION:Local Creative Community Premieres Audacious Mockumentary \nSet Entirely in Downtown Albuquerque\n• VAMP: an irreverent comedy about a haunted community theater \n• July 2\, 7:30 pm\n• Screening at q-Staff Theatre\n• All tickets $20. Tickets available in advance at bosquecsl.org\nThe Plot: Venerable Albuquerque theater troupe\, the ViVa Players\, has been beset with\nchallenges — changing audience tastes\, bi!er internal squabbles\, and a global pandemic. Now\, a \nruthless developer wants to bulldoze the ViVa Playhouse to erect a digital post-production studio\nand laser tag arena.\nIn a last ditch effort to save the historic building\, passionate and tyrannical director Toto \nPendragon plans a bold adaptation\, “North Valley of the Dolls\,” representing a gri!y new direction\nfor the company…\nPerhaps it should be no surprise that the spirits are restless. This time\, however\, the ghosts are\ndifferent\, maybe even dangerous. Could it be that the ghost of tv legend and Albuquerque\nsweetheart (and ViVa namesake & figurehead)\, Vivian Vance\, herself\, has come to the reckoning?\nTelevision’s Mystery Highway and host Dax Colossal return to New Mexico to investigate. \nWri!en collaboratively by a group of 12\, directed by Drew Groves\, and featuring outrageous\ncharacterizations from more than 2 dozen local performers\, VAMP is a bawdy satire on a \nshoestring budget. If John Waters and Christopher Guest had a baby\, she might throw a tantrum about it.

SUMMARY:Einstein's Violin
DESCRIPTION:q-Staff Theatre Presents: \nThe world premiere of  \nEinstein’s Violin  \nwritten and performed by Thomas Schuch \nWhen \n  \nOctober 3\, 4\, 5 at 7:30pm \nOctober 6 at 2:00pm \nOctober 10\, 11\, 12 at 7:30 pm \nOctober 13 at 2:00 pm \n  \nWhere \nq-Staff Theatre \n400 Broadway Blvd. SE (corner of Broadway & Lead) \nAlbuquerque\, NM 87102 \n505-596-1847 \nTickets \n$14 students & seniors \n$18 general \nPurchase tickets at Brown Paper Tickets \nhttps://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/4323238 \nAbout the Production   \nThe seed of this original production was sown in 2005 when I was shopping for a violin bow for my production of Einstein: A Stage Portrait. I was in Robertson & Sons Violin Shop in Albuquerque and speaking with one of the sons when he mentioned they were repairing one of Einstein’s violins. He asked if I’d like to see it. Of course\, I said\, “yes!” The violin was in pieces and looked rather ordinary. But\, I learned that Einstein had not only made simple repairs to his violin\, but had also left behind a tidbit of his sense of humor.  ~TS \nThe Story \nAccompanied by his favorite classical music\, Einstein begins to repair his precious violin\, ’Lina.’ All the while he talks to a soon to be revealed muse about his love for music and its influence on his life and work. Through Einstein’s words and the beautiful precision of a classical music we celebrate the coming together of art\, science\, and love. \n“I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music…I get (the) most joy in life out of music.”  Albert Einstein \nThe Times \nEnormous changes in the world were taking place during Einstein’s formative and most productive years influencing both his work and his view of the world. During the early to mid-20th Century an explosive evolution and experimentation in art\, science\, literature\, politics\, architecture\, philosophy\, and technology began to take place. Once thought of as a revolutionary\, Einstein slowly became the ‘old guard’ of scientific advancement\, butting heads with the developers of quantum mechanics as he continued to search for the elusive unified field theory of everything. It is against this backdrop that we see Albert Einstein search for answers through the solace of his music. \nThomas Schuch is a native of Los Alamos\, New Mexico\, and began his formal acting training at the University of Washington\, a national leader in theater training.  After getting his B.A. in Drama\, Mr. Schuch continued his studies at the Harvey Lembeck Comedy Improv Workshop in L.A.  He then returned to Albuquerque and helped found two regional performance troupes; Surely You Jest (comedy improv) and Shakespeare-On-The-Halfshell.   \nMr. Schuch has appeared in numerous films and TV series including Blood Thinner Than Water (written and directed by Alan Arkin)\, Five Dollars a Day\, Mall Cop\, Doubting Thomas\, Better Call Saul\, Manhattan\, In Plain Sight\, Wildfire\, Longmire\, and The Night Shift\, as well as many national and regional commercials\, and more than sixty plays.  A leader in the New Mexico performing arts community and a member of Actors Equity Association\, Mr. Schuch is a founding member of Albuquerque’s innovative Mother Road Theatre Company\, where he served as Board President and Director of Marketing in addition to performing in The Weir\, Memory of Water\, The Seafarer\, The Illusion\, and other Mother Road productions.  He now sits on the board of q-Staff Theatre and is the 1st Vice President of the SAG-AFTRA NM Local.  \nThrough his own company\, Spoli Productions International\, LLC\, Tom has been performing and producing the award winning\, one-man show Einstein: A Stage Portrait internationally since 2001.  From Albuquerque to Bangalore\, India Tom has presented his Einstein Live! STEM/STEAM programming for prestigious science organizations\, universities\, general audiences\, and schools K-12. \nConnect with us: \nEinstein Live! \nSpoli Productions International\, LLC \n505-379-5153 \nts@spoli.com \nhttps://www.einstein-live.com \nFind Einstein Live! on Facebook\, Twitter\, and Instagram

SUMMARY:Einstein's Violin
DESCRIPTION:q-Staff Theatre Presents: \nThe world premiere of  \nEinstein’s Violin  \nwritten and performed by Thomas Schuch \nWhen: \nOctober 3\, 4\, 5 at 7:30pm \nOctober 6 at 2:00pm \nOctober 10\, 11\, 12 at 7:30pm \nOctober 13 at 2:00pm \nWhere \nq-Staff Theatre \n400 Broadway Blvd.

Her nonfiction has appeared in Mutha Magazine. She is at work on a memoir of her mental \nillness and parenting. \n\n\n \n\n\nZACK FREEMAN is a looping\, sampling acapella performer. He’s been looping in New Mexico since \n2004. While primarily a beatboxer/vocal percussionist\, Zack also is a serious lyricist. He takes the struggles of the ordinary and brings them to center stage\, placing the humanity in a groove that moves the heart and body. The majority of his inspiration comes from his life as a husband and father and son in a mixed race family. Zack has appeared on America’s Got Talent and the Jerry Lewis Telethon in addition to performing all over the United States at colleges\, fairs\, and festivals. But that was a long time ago\, and now he mostly goes to work and tries to keep up with his teenager. Zack is a simple person trying to explain complex problems… which is why he uses beatboxing to make one-sidedarguments through music. At his current job\, he is a one-manproduction team doing design\, motion graphics\, video\, and music production. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n[$5-10 donations help sustain the series] [FB\, Twittter\, & Instagram @badmouthburque]

SUMMARY:Consider This
DESCRIPTION:  \nqstaffPRESENTS: \nTHEATER GROTTESCO \nCONSIDER THIS   \n             \nAlbuquerque\,  N.M.— qstaff is presenting Theater Grottesco’s CONSIDER THIS…\, Tuesday and Wednesday\, September 3-4 at 7:30pm. \nCONSIDER THIS is a 60 minute romp through the pre-history of American theater\, from Greek Tragedy to Commedia dell’Arte\, Clown\, Buffoon\, masks and more. Enjoy the irreverence of one of America’s most creative theatrical ensembles while they share the philosophy and the many theatrical styles that make up their fantastically imaginative original plays. \n \nTheater Grottesco is an anomaly in American theater. The Grottesco artists create their own plays collectively. The choice of Realism\, generic comedy or musicals\, is replaced with a broad range of historical theatrical styles or combinations of styles – distinctly ‘unrealistic’- and most often pushing the artists into unknown territory. Instead of intellectual arguments and emotion conveyed through a script\, the company uses imagery\, movement\, stillness and silence to move audiences. The artists prefer to ask questions rather than provide answers. And instead of 3-6 weeks of rehearsals\, the company spends years developing a piece. In many ways\, Theater Grottesco is closer to dance\, music and the fine arts then it is to conventional theater.  \nFounded in 1983 in Paris\, France\, Theater Grottesco creates a new kind of performance that is visual\, explosive and full of surprise. This highly trained ensemble of artists rekindles interest in live performance by juxtaposing classical theatrical styles with a daring\, poetic research of culture and imagination\, taking audiences to the brink of emotional wonder and soulful reflection.  \nGrottesco has created 15 full-length original plays and over 40 shorter works ranging in style from Tragic Buffonery to Performance Poetry\, Expressionistic Melodrama and Gesture Based Dance. The company has received 15 NEA Professional Theatre Awards\, and national grants from the Rockefeller MAP Fund\, MetLife\, Doris Duke\, Andrew Mellon\, Theater Communications Group \,The Network of Ensemble Theaters and a prestigious 2017 National Theatre Project Award. Grottesco moved to the United States in 1985\, basing out of New York and Detroit before settling in Santa Fe in 1996. Theater Grottesco toured nationally for 15 years performing in 8 countries\, 30 states\, most major U.S. cities and dozens of smaller communities. It performed Off-Broadway in 1999 with a production that will be permanently archived in the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.  \nPERFORMANCE SCHEDULE:  \nTuesday\, September 3\, 7:30pm \nWednesday\, September 4\, 7:30 pm \nTickets are $15 general admission\,  $10 for students and seniors \nTICKETS: http://www.theatergrottesco.org/shows\, or call 505-474-8400 \nConsider This….is funded in part by New Mexico Arts: a division of the Department of Cultural Affairs\, and by the City of Santa Fe Arts Commission and the 1% Lodger’s Tax.  \n\nINTERVIEWS AND ADDITIONAL IMAGES AVAILABLE ON REQUEST www.theatergrottesco.org
